Intrada Synergy Server to process license plate-based video toll transactions for critical North Carolina corridor

Indra, one of the leading global providers of mobility transportation solutions, awarded as the toll system integrator of the I-485 Express Lane Roadside Toll Collection System (RTCS) project by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA), has chosen Q-Free’s Intrada® Synergy Server to process license plate-based video toll transactions. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in enhancing toll collection efficiency and traffic management along the critical corridor.

The I-485 Express Lanes project, aimed at improving travel time reliability and traffic flow in the Charlotte area, represents a strategic initiative by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and NCTA to develop an interconnected express lane network within critical transportation corridors. Located along the Charlotte southern outer and inner loop between I-77 and US74, this segment of I-485 experiences congestion on a regular basis, with daily vehicle counts ranging between 72,400 and 118,400.

Indra will equip I-485 Express Lanes with a dynamically priced open road tolling system, with the application of innovative technologies such as 3D LiDAR and artificial intelligence.

Intrada Synergy Server, selected for its exceptional performance and accuracy, will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the I-485 Express Lane toll collection system. Leveraging advanced image-to-data conversion technologies and artificial intelligence, the ISS system will efficiently process a diverse range of USA license plate styles, enhancing toll revenue collection accuracy and operational efficiency.
