Georgia DOT and Q-Free set new cybersecurity standard with first statewide deployment of Dynamic Signals

The agreement to deploy the software at more than 8,500 Georgia DOT intersections comes just days after Dynamic Signals’ release.

Q-Free, a global leader in mobility solutions for smart city infrastructure, today announced an agreement with long-time partner, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) to deploy its new Dynamic™ Signals software across the state’s more than 8,500 traffic signal controllers. The statewide upgrade, set to begin this fall, will make Georgia DOT the first traffic agency to roll out the software—setting a new cybersecurity standard for signal operations nationwide.

Dynamic Signals is the first traffic signal controller software built to a modern standard of cybersecurity for today’s connected world. Unlike legacy firmware reliant on outdated or insecure protocols like SNMPv1, Dynamic Signals delivers end-to-end encryption, secure API-based communications, and advanced authentication—making it the only controller software in North America designed to address modern IT security requirements.

The software integrates seamlessly with Q-Free’s Kinetic® Mobility Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) platform, giving agencies like Georgia DOT a complete end-to-end solution for secure traffic signal operations. Georgia DOT currently uses Kinetic Mobility statewide, enabling them to immediately benefit from the software’s enhanced protections.

“By prioritizing cybersecurity, the Georgia Department of Transportation is setting an example for agencies nationwide,” said Whitney Nottage, P.E., PTOE, EVP of Traffic Management at Q-Free. “Dynamic Signals is a major leap forward in protecting transportation infrastructure from evolving threats, which is at the heart of Q-Free’s mission.”

Dynamic Signals retains the trusted functionality and logic of Q-Free’s MAXTIME software suite for Advanced Transportation Controllers (ATC) while adding vital cybersecurity protections in a modern, intuitive platform. It’s also the foundation of Q-Free’s next-generation controller ecosystem, which will provide future enhancements like Connected Vehicles (CV), ramp metering, and adaptive signal control into the same secure platform, making it easier than ever for agencies to scale their capabilities

Nottage added, “This partnership shows how innovation and security can intersect to create smarter, safer, and more secure transportation systems. Georgia DOT is laying the foundation for a connected, data-driven future that will keep people moving safely for years to come.”
