AI Enablement Engineer

AI Enablement Engineer

Location: Trondheim, Norway preferred

Q-Free is a global leader in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). For more than four decades, we have developed technology that improves traffic flow, enhances road safety, reduces emissions, and enables secure, large-scale mobility systems worldwide. Our solutions combine advanced electronics, hardware, software, and systems that operate as payment-critical infrastructure in demanding environments across the globe.

To strengthen our AI Center of Excellence, we are now looking for an AI Enablement Engineer who can help shape how AI is used across Q-Free. The role will contribute to moving Q-Free from individual AI experimentation to more structured, responsible and secure use of AI across teams, locations and functions, with engineering as the initial main focus.

Your role at Q-Free

As AI Enablement Engineer, you will be part of Q-Free’s AI Center of Excellence and report to the Chief AI Officer (CAO). You will work at the intersection of software engineering, generative AI, platforming, competence building and organisational enablement.

You will help teams adopt and make better use of AI tools, build AI-augmented workflows, and bring learning and best practice to Q-Free as a whole. This is not a pure coordination or advisory role; we are looking for someone with technical credibility and practical understanding who can work hands-on with the technology while also helping others become more effective users of AI.

Based preferably in Trondheim, you will collaborate with colleagues across locations, cultures and disciplines, including engineers, domain experts and AI Champions. You should be motivated by working in a complex international technology organisation.

In addition to the tasks and responsibilities described above, some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Explore, evaluate and apply new AI tools, models and ways of working relevant to Q-Free.
  • Work hands-on with product, engineering and domain teams to assess value, limitations and risk while developing and integrating practical AI-based solutions.
  • Develop shared patterns, best practices and reusable approaches for AI-assisted software development, engineering work and broader AI adoption across Q-Free.
  • Collaborate closely with AI Champions and engineering communities through discussions, design reviews, demonstrations, workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Contribute to observability, evaluation and measurement of AI solutions, including effect, usage, cost and quality over time.

What we're looking for

The most important capacity you bring to this role is a strong software engineering foundation combined with practical experience and genuine curiosity around generative AI, LLMs and AI-assisted development. You understand how engineers work and you are comfortable discussing and engaging with senior engineers. You are furthermore motivated by helping both technical teams and other colleagues use AI in ways that are secure, structured and value-creating.

You likely have a degree in computer science, software engineering, AI/ML, data science or another technical discipline. Equivalent experience gained through hands-on work may compensate for a lack of a formal degree.

The role requires strong communication skills in English and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with senior engineers, AI/ML specialists, domain experts and stakeholders across locations and cultures. Norwegian is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Who you are as a person

You are curious, learning-oriented and genuinely motivated by how AI can make engineering work and broader organisational workflows better. You enjoy exploring new tools and technologies, but you are also pragmatic and critical in how you assess value, risk and applicability. You are hands-on by nature, enable others and like turning ideas into something that can be tested, improved and used in practice.

Is Q-Free the right fit for you?

If you are motivated by turning emerging technology into practical, reliable and responsible ways of working, Q-Free offers an environment where your work can have real impact. You will join a company where technical depth, collaboration and ownership are valued, and where AI is becoming an important enabler for how teams develop smarter, safer and more sustainable mobility solutions.

If you enjoy working close to skilled engineers and domain experts, combining hands-on technology with competence building, you may be a great fit for Q-Free.

What we offer

  • A key role in shaping how a global technology company uses AI in engineering, product innovation and broader organizational workflows.
  • The opportunity to help build and develop Q-Free’s AI Center of Excellence from an early stage.
  • Hands-on work with practical AI use cases, modern tools and experienced technology environments.
  • A work environment characterized by trust, openness, curiosity and short decision paths.
  • Flexibility in how you structure your work, within a supportive and professional framework.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
