Congestion Charging
Whilst Road User Charging primarily focuses on maximising the return on investment, Congestion Charging solutions aim to distribute and reduce the traffic in such a manner that the traffic becomes less congested, travel time improved and the environmental impact from transportation reduced.
QFree’s solutions for Congestion Charging are made to fit into a city environment, offering fair and reliable services with high degree of availability. As for the Road User Charging solutions, we utilise all parts of our toolbox to make a solution perfectly fitted to each case.
Choose from Multilane Free Flow solutions entirely relying on ANPR-cameras to conventional tag and beacon based solutions. Select from a variety of control station topologies, from conventional MLFF stations to single-pole implementations. Our Congestion Charging solution is designed to fit into any city environment and to deliver traffic control through automatic vehicle identification and advanced enforcement.
It combines either DSRC beacons for OBU reading and positioning with videobased vehicle detection and tracking or alternately perform all operations related to vehicle identification and enforcement using ANPR cameras. The most common arrangement for a Congestion Charging solution is to vary the cost per passage according to the time of the day (hence also varying in accordance with the congestion). Q-Free’s Congestion Charging solutions are perfectly prepared to implement and execute such business models, including also other modes of control such as denial of access to vehicles with limited rights of access.
The solution can be ‘low-visibility’ optimised, for sensitive use in inner city areas, or ‘high performance’ optimised, all depending on the particular requirements for each case.
