Free-Flow Tolling – Australia
Supported by Q-Free, Transurban Queensland (previously Queensland Motorways Ltd) has, since November 2009, operated a free-flow tolling system which does away with the need for toll booths.
The core of the organisation’s operating system is IBM’s Identification, Rating and Interoperability Services (IRIS) subsystem, which picks up information generated at the roadside and uses stored business logic to execute a series of tolling-related transactions. This is allied to a comprehensive SAP customer relations management database which holds vehicle and owner profile information.
