The company maintains a core staff of technicians and service professionals in its Lisbon office and is a proud partner of BRISA, Portugal's leading concessionaire.Through its pioneering work, BRISA has become one of the world leaders in toll road operations and can today demonstrate an efficient and environmentally friendly ETC operation under the name Via Verde ("green road").
Q-Free Portugal Lda helped to develop this, Europe's first nationwide electronic tolling system and supplied all the ETC equipment, the computer back office system and 2.4 million OBUs.
On the 23rd of January 2009 Q-Free was awarded by AENOR the delivery of first Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling project in Portugal. The contract comprises delivery of Road Side Equipment, Operational Back Office and related services for the concessions “Grande Porto” and “Costa da Prata” currently operational under the shadow tolling scheme (SCUT) and which will be transformed into a fully operational MLFF.
The design and build phase will last throughout 2009 and part of 2010, followed by a service and maintenance activity for 5 years. Total number of MLFF charging points for this project is 48, with a total of 171 lanes.
